Financial statements should help answer real owner questions.
A small-business accountant should do more than categorize expenses. Current, reconciled reports give you a consistent place to start when you are weighing what is changing in the business.
- Profit and loss See revenue, cost of goods sold, and operating expenses together.
- Balance sheet Understand cash, receivables, payables, debt, and equity at a point in time.
- Comparisons and percentages Review changes from prior months and how major costs relate to revenue.
- Review notes and questions Flag missing information, unusual activity, and items that may need owner input.
A year-round relationship
Keep accounting and tax connected to the way you operate.
Tax work is more useful when it has context from current accounting. Depending on your engagement, TAO can connect business results with projections, salary and distribution decisions, estimated taxes, and year-end planning before the filing deadline arrives.
Reconcile accounts and prepare monthly financial statements.
Discuss results, open questions, and changes in the business.
Use projections and tax conversations while choices remain.
Prepare agreed returns, review the year, and plan what follows.
What to expect
A clear start, then a consistent monthly process.
New relationships begin with an onboarding project to understand the business, set up access and workflows, bring agreed historical records current, and review the first financial results. Onboarding is planned across the first 60 to 90 days; timing depends on complexity, backwork, and how quickly required information is available.
Align on goals, services, responsibilities, and open questions.
Organize accounts, records, systems, and the agreed workflow.
Complete scoped historical work and review the initial results.
Follow a documented close with clear requests and review.
A fit for the stage
Built for owners who want a steadier financial operating rhythm.
Many TAO clients operate businesses between $500,000 and $3 million in annual revenue, often with fewer than 10 employees. That describes a common client profile, not a strict cutoff. We work across industries and with owners of one or more businesses who value current records, connected accounting and tax support, and clear communication about responsibilities and scope.
You want current numbers. You are tired of waiting until year-end to understand how the business performed.
You want connected support. You want accounting and tax conversations to draw from the same financial context.
You are ready to participate. You can provide records, access, approvals, and answers needed for the agreed work.
Small-business accounting questions
Questions owners often ask before choosing an accounting firm.
What does monthly accounting include?
TAO’s monthly accounting includes transaction categorization, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and review. The exact accounts, reporting, and client responsibilities are confirmed during onboarding and in your agreed scope.
Does monthly accounting include business tax returns?
Accounting and tax preparation are related but separately scoped services. TAO can coordinate monthly accounting with business and individual tax planning and return preparation when included in your engagement.
Can you help if my books are behind?
Onboarding includes a review of historical records and any backwork needed to establish the monthly process. The work and timing are scoped after we understand the condition and volume of the records.
How are accounting fees structured?
Core recurring services are generally priced with predictable fixed fees. Setup, historical cleanup, special projects, and work outside the agreed scope may be quoted or billed separately.
What will you need from me each month?
Owners provide timely access to financial records, respond to questions about transactions, and handle approvals and operating responsibilities assigned to them. Those details are clarified during onboarding so the monthly process is understood on both sides.
